Editors
Editors review articles submitted for publication in the Undergraduate Journal of Psychology at Berkeley and make editorial decisions regarding what to publish. They work closely with authors to help them turn selected articles into polished, publishable pieces.
Qualifications: Training sessions are provided to introduce and build upon editors’ skills in critically reading, evaluating, and revising research articles. However, editors are initially selected for their excellent writing skills. They are able to work well with authors and other editors and are willing to be active learners and contributors to the entire publication process. Since the journal only publishes articles relevant to psychology, students with experience and interest in psychology and cognitive science are especially encouraged to apply. Students who enjoy correcting grammatical and spelling errors are also welcome.
After articles have been selected for publication in the Undergraduate Journal of Psychology at Berkeley, layout designers assemble the submitted content into a page of their design.
Qualifications: Layout designers must be proficient with Adobe InDesign to perform their tasks.
Web designers are responsible for creating the look and feel of the UJPB website. They meet with the Editor-in-Chiefs to discuss ideas for the layout and organization of the site, the types of colors or images to use( photos, illustrations, videos, etc.), and other matters concerning overall graphic design.
Qualifications: All designers must have training in computer graphics packages such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator, as well as knowledge of Flash, XML-based web applications and programming, XHTML programming, and other web development languages and technologies.
They design promotional displays, flyers, brochures, banners, distinctive logos and designs, and the cover of the UJPB publication. They may also work to develop material for multimedia projects and design ads for businesses that purchase advertisements.
Qualifications: Graphic designers must be proficient in Adobe Photoshop in order to perform their tasks. Individuals with experience in creating digitized hand sketches or digital illustrations are especially encouraged to apply.
